TSC -
Becoming an Elite Youth Development Club
Towamencin Soccer Club is building a solid reputation as a highly competitive club in the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association (EPYSA) and the results are showing for many reasons:
-
Recent successes of our 2009 travel teams, four of which finished first in their divisions in ICSL
-
A progressive Intramural division as measured by the number of new travel teams and players who’ve been jumping from intramurals to our travel clubs.
-
The Club offers “something for everyone” and focuses on developing the abilities of all players at all levels.
-
Training, both youth (player)and adult (coaching)is encouraged, emphasized and readily available from our training staff.
TSC, over the last two seasons has been striving to better prepare players making the jump from Intramural to travel.
The clubs heavy emphasis on strong training programs such as our professional training weeks and summer camp run by the clubs Director of coaching, Chris Felber, have received acclaim as being “the highlight of the season, great fun yet highly developmental”. Additionally we’re now in the second year of the TSC player development academy run indoors during the winter. Academy programs are specially aimed at select level players looking for a chance to play through the winter and develop their skills to a level that they will be ready to compete and play for our travel teams in the spring.
In 2010 we have also introduced an academy program for younger age travel teams looking to enhance their team play so they can compete in State wide competitions through the winter and spring.
On top of these programs we also added our first U8 travel and U8 select teams last fall building more options for youth players to choose from in TSC.
Towamencin has really become a great place for all players starting out their soccer careers.
-
Beginning with TSC’s intramural division (IM). For ages (5-17) this program is for players wanting to learn the game, play and have fun.
Our Select teams program, a progression from IM is aimed at developing skilled players with assistance from our professional and travel coaching teams.
-
Travel teams are for players looking for the highest level of competition locally and nationally, TSC competes in the inter-county soccer league (ICSL).
What’s new for this season?
This year TSC will start the select team formation by end of August, which gives the teams additional formation time and coaching. The select teams will be handpicked teams for players that want to play travel but are not ready for the every week commitment or perhaps feel they need to develop their skill for one more season. What the select team players will offer is a night of Professional training to develop the individual skills of players on the team plus the two nights of games in the IM division.
This is just another option at Towamencin Soccer Club for our young players and another step in the right direction to make TSC truly an Elite Youth Development Club. |
TSC/Essential Summer Camp
Essential Camps are open to all soccer players
between 6 and 14. The Tiny Touches class runs
everyday and are available to 3-5 year olds. Essential
Camps are fun based camps where
campers learn the basics and specifics to succeed in
soccer at all levels in a relaxed and friendly
atmosphere. All Essential Trainers have gained
their coaching qualifications from colleges in
Scotland or through coaching license courses held
by the Scottish Football Association which is the
equivalent of the USSF here in America. Many also
hold American coaching qualifications. Essential
Trainers all have extensive playing and coaching
experience and cannot wait to pass on their love &
enthusiasm for the sport to our campers.
I Volunteered for Field Maintenance
Now What?
by Jim Warren
TSC reserves approximately twenty local fields to support the intramural and travel soccer programs. Each of these fields need to be lined with spray paint to specific dimensions (which varies based upon the size of the field for each age group) prior to the beginning of the season. In addition, each field needs to be re-lined periodically (every 2 weeks or so, depending on the weather). In order to ensure that this important work is done timely and efficiently, we rely on volunteers to assist with the initial and periodic field-lining duties. In fact, without the assistance of TSC volunteers it would be impossible to keep all the fields painted with adequately clear lines throughout the season. Volunteer duties for field lining include measuring, staking, stringing, and running the paint sprayers. With 4-8 volunteers a single field can be staked, strung, and lined within 30-60 minutes. Pre-season lining sessions are scheduled for 2 hours per session, and in previous years we've had enough volunteers so that one person needs not stay for more than a couple hours at a time. In-season field lining is scheduled periodically on a site-by-site basis, which can typically be done within an hour per site.
