Connie Mack League 2007 Connie Mack Baseball Registration Form WELCOME TO CONNIE MACK The bases are now 90’ apart. The pitching mound is 60’-6” from home plate. The field is much larger than the 60’ Little League diamond. Oh my goodness! Can my child make the transition? Sure they can. Do not fret; you’re in good hands. Welcome to Connie Mack Baseball, the next step in your child’s baseball tenure. The Pennsylvania Connie Mack `league has two leagues in Pennsylvania; the Bux-Mont and the Lehigh Valley leagues. There are approximately 40 teams between both leagues and we (Towamencin) are in the Bux-Mont league. There are three levels of play in Connie Mack baseball: the ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C divisions which encompass players from 13-16 years old. A few years ago a new level of baseball was introduced in the Bux-Mont area called the Senior Connie Mack league which allows players to play from 17-29 years old. This league competes in Bucks and Montgomery Counties. There are two levels of play in Senior Connie Mack; the 17-23 Sullivan Division for those players who do not have American Legion playing experience, and the 19-29 year old Hostelley Division for those players with American Legion and/or college playing experience. In 2004 & 2005, the Towamencin 19-29 team won the league championship. As you can see, your child can play Connie Mack baseball in Towamencin from 13-29 years old. Connie Mack baseball is a strong and growing league. We typically have a new team added each year. A lot of parents are not aware of how large the Connie Mack league is and how many teams are involved. We are a large organization and WE PLAY GOOD COMPETITIVE BASEBALL!!! The ‘C’ League(s) This year can be the most challenging and rewarding for players and coaches. There’s a lot to learn about “real baseball” in this transition year and good instruction is extremely important. The ‘C’ league is comprised of 13 & 14 year olds. We typically have two ‘C’ teams each year. The reason league is plural above is Bux-Mont has developed a ‘C’ and ‘C1’ format. The ‘C1’ team is for those players who have experience and skills on the 90’ field and the ‘C’ level are for those players who will be playing on the larger field for the first time or their skills need to be developed. This is a learning year for most players and the league doesn’t want them to feel the pressure of having to win. There is a year-end round-robin tournament for qualifying teams. Some organizations put together a group that represents a kind of “All-Star” team selecting players from all their various ‘C’ teams. Others may enter their teams as they competed during the year. Team home games have been played at NPHS, Fields 1 & 2. The “B” League(s) The ‘B’ league is the next step after ‘C’ league play. The ‘B’ team is comprised of 14-16 year olds, along with a few select 13 year olds. Usually, we have two ‘B’ teams, and we expect this year to no different. ‘B’ team play is a higher competition with the purpose to develop the players for ‘A’ league play the next season. The league does have a ‘B’ and ‘B1’ format; however, it is up to each organization to decide what levels of play they choose. There is a year-end tournament for those teams who qualify. It is up to each organization to determine the number and structure of the team(s) they enter in that tournament. Some organizations put together a group that represents a kind of “All-Star” team selecting players from all their various ‘B’ teams. Others many enter their teams as they competed during the year. Team home games have been held at NPHS, Fields 1& 2. The “A” League The ‘A’ League is comprised of players 14-16 years old and competes at a high level. We generally carry 12 regularly rostered players. Each of the Bux-Mont Connie Mack programs are permitted only one ‘A’ team. Our home games are played at Christopher Dock HS on Forty Foot Road. We encourage ALL CM players and parents to come out to as many of our games as they can. We have a commitment letter at the ‘A’ level that our players and their parents are required to sign. Our objective for the ‘A’ team is to be one of the teams to represent the Bux-Mont league in the state Connie Mack tournament. We were fortunate to win the State Tournament in 1996 and we’d love to do it again. Double Rostering Players This may be a new concept to some of you. There are a couple of reasons for double rostering players. The league allows 20 players to be rostered to a team, regardless of the level. Double rostering ensures enough players are available for games at all levels of Connie Mack play. It is especially important at the ‘A’ level as it provides the ‘A’ team manager and coaching staff the flexibility in games for pinch running, pinch hitting and getting those double rostered players into games and to prepare those players for the next season. The ‘B’ teams will also double roster players from the ‘C’ teams and the ‘C’ teams can share players, if necessary, to ensure they have enough players to field a team for a game.
