TYA Baseball Program Structure
The Intramural (IM) baseball program is separated into two divisions: Instructional and Competitive. Younger boys (ages 5-8) participate at the instructional level; older boys (ages 9-12) at the competitive level. There are approximately 20 teams at each level of the Intramural program. All IM games are played on "Little League" sized (50 or 60 foot) diamonds.
The Connie Mack (CM) Baseball program is for boys ages 13 to 16, and games are played on full sized (90-foot) diamonds. Connie Mack games are played against other organizations in Bucks and Montgomery Counties, with state championships held between the Bux-Mont and Lehigh Valley Connie Mack programs. TYA generally fields 5 teams at the Connie Mack level. A Senior Connie Mack division is also available for players ages 17 to 29. TYA participation in this division varies based on the number of players interested.
Instructional Leagues
The instructional level (typically ages 5-8) is comprised of T-Ball and Midgets teams. At this level, the emphasis is on skill development and knowledge of the game. No score is kept; no standings are maintained; no play-offs or All-Star activities are conducted. Coaches are very involved on the field during games for these leagues.
T-BALL (~ages 5-6)
The T-Ball program is intended for FIRST YEAR PLAYERS, offering an easy and fun introduction to the game of baseball. In T-Ball, players hit off a batting tee for the first half of the season, and are exposed to coach-pitch after Memorial Day. This league is intended for first year players just learning the fundamentals of the game.
Jr. MIDGETS (~ages 6-7)
SECOND YEAR PLAYERS will participate in the “Jr. Midgets” program. This “coach pitch” league builds on the T-Ball experience and involves hitting a pitched ball for the entire season. In 2007 we will be providing pitching machines to ensure consistent speed, accuracy and angle of pitched balls.
T-Ball and Jr. Midgets games are typically played
on “undersized” youth baseball fields
(50’ base-paths instead of 60’)
Sr. MIDGETS (~ages 7-8)
THIRD YEAR PLAYERS participate in the “Sr. Midgets” program, with players gradually introduced to “player-pitch” during the season. This is intended to facilitate the transition from coach-pitch, instructional level of play to fully competitive youth baseball.
Sr. Midgets games are typically played
on “standard” youth baseball fields
(60’ base-paths / 46’ pitchers’ mound)
Competitive Leagues
In the competitive leagues the score is kept, standings are maintained, an all-star game is played, and playoffs are held. League assignments are based on experience and skill-level, as determined by prior year performance and pre-season player evaluations. Separate all-star games and playoffs are conducted in each of these three leagues, with trophies awarded to the first and second place teams.
MINORS (~ages 9-10)
The Minors league is essentially for boys entering their first year of competitive play. Players pitch to opposing teams, balls and strikes are called by volunteer umpires, regulation youth baseball rules are enforced with minor variations (limits on steals, runs scored, etc.).
MAJORS (~ages 10-12)
The Majors league is primarily for players 10 through 12 with one or more years of competitive experience. This league is for the most experienced and capable players on a standard 60-foot youth baseball infield. “Standard” youth baseball rules are enforced.
Minors and Majors games are played
on “standard” youth baseball fields
(60’ base-paths / 46’ pitchers mound)
Sr. MAJORS New “Transitional” League! (~ages 11-12)
The Sr. Majors (“50/70”) league is for 11 and 12 year-old players with several years of competitive experience who have demonstrated a significant level of skill and knowledge of the game. The Sr. Majors program is being introduced to more successfully facilitate the transition to full-sized baseball fields, and are largely inspired by changes in league-age determination guidelines established last year resulting in more middle-school players remaining eligible for little league programs.
Sr. Majors games are played
on “transitional” youth baseball field –
(70’ base-paths / 50’ pitchers mound)
Connie Mack
The TYA Connie Mack program participates with other local teams in the Bux-Mont Connie Mack league. This program is divided into three divisions based on age, experience and ability. Skill evaluations are held in late March / early April. Connie Mack games generally start later in the spring (on or around Memorial Day) and continue through the month of July.
All Connie Mack contests are played on official, full-sized baseball fields (90’ base-paths, 60’ pitcher’s mounds).
CONNIE MACK “C” (~ages 13-14)
The “C” league is intended for players (ages 13-14) in their first or second year on full sized fields. TYA typically fields 2 teams at the “C” level.
CONNIE MACK “B” (~ages 14-16)
The “B” league is for more experienced players (ages 14 – 16) on the large fields. In addition, we occasionally roster a “B1” level team of more experienced “B” level players who are ready for more competitive play. TYA generally promotes 2 “B” level (or 1 “B” and 1 “B1” level) Connie Mack teams.
CONNIE MACK “A” (~ages 15-16)
Each organization in the Bux-Mont league fields 1 “A” level team. The “A” team is generally comprised of the top 15-year old and 16-year old players in the program.
The Bux-Mont league sponsors all-star games for all levels (A, B and C) and playoffs for the B and C divisions. In addition, the State Connie Mack organization promotes a State All-Star game for the "A" division, as well as State Championship tournaments at the A level. These activities are held in conjunction with the Lehigh Valley CM program in and around Allentown.
Please note the Bux-Mont Connie Mack (BMCM) program strictly enforces territorial boundaries for league participation. In general, a Towamencin resident will be required to participate on the Towamencin team unless that player participated in another township for the majority of his intramural experience. Some exceptions are made on a case by case basis (e.g. an Upper Gwynedd resident who played intramural in TYA would generally be allowed to play for the Towamencin Connie Mack team instead of Nor-Gwyn). Special “release forms” must be completed, reviewed and approved by the BMCM league in such instances.
FALL BALL
Opportunities to continue developing baseball skills in the late summer / early fall are available for players in both the Intramural (ages 8-12) and Connie Mack (ages 13-15) levels. Play is generally limited to weekends in September and October. Contact TYA Baseball for more information on these opportunities.
